Spring is almost here

How was Speedwagon? Sounds like Bozeman crew had a good time. Erik was happy.

Not much going on this week. Boss left for family emergency so work will be pretty mellow. Nothing planned for the weekend. Maybe a Billings trip. Would like to visit Grandma. Good time to do some riding or running there. Maybe go down Saturday evening and come home Sunday. Do run there Sunday?

Been rethinking driving to Wisconsin in June. Seems like a lot of time and money to just ride the course. Saw a you tube video of course and not especially spectacular riding either. Would rather do some mini weekends to spectacular places in Montana.  Was thinking. What if I went out there say the Thursday or Friday, a week before the race? I could get in a little course riding then? Acclimate to the weather for a week. My parents have a timeshare condo an hour from Madison I could use. It would be about the same amount of vacation time. We could fly and in the long run probably save a lot of money.

St. George- 22 wave swim start. Kind of like it. Won't have to worry too much about drowning.

Tuesday - Called in sick to work again. Maybe some of this is work related.  Went too gift with the girls and met my sister for lunch. Swam after lunch. Did a bunch of 50s and stretched it out like you said. Pretty tight after 1000. Got in 1500. Trying to let this get me down. Just need to get healed up.

Wed
Got Lawrence to get out with me. Ended up getting a flat and taking a while to fix it. Have a really good spot to do that length of interval. A general gentle uphill with a few little rollers. It started to get too dark to be safe so missed one interval. Those keep you honest though. I definitely had to work a lot harder on the last few.
40 minute run post ride and post crashing into the garage door because I couldn't get out of my pedals. Ugh. Got to clean out the cleats on my shoes. It was dark and very late when I finally got home. Pizza for dins tonight.

Thursday- 11am run with Michelle. We went easy pace to start and ran harder up a hill for about 20 minutes. Then easier home. Her easy is a little faster than my easy. That run hurt. Good though. If I keep going with her it will get better.
Easy ride on cross bike around town in the evening. Weather is so nice. It was fun to get out.

Friday- sort of miscalculated my time and didn't have as much as I thought. Swam 100s this time. Definitely not hurting as bad to start, but still get pretty stiff after 1000.

Weekend- nice mellow weekend. Not stressful. Felt good to have to house to myself and keep getting rest

Saturday - long ride. Lots of hills. Up and over Kelly canyon, up and over Jackson creek and then back again, up Sypes canyon and then around the valley. Felt good climbing the hills, had a good ride in general.

Sunday- spent lots of time with the parents. It was a nice mellow day. Beautiful weather. Got in the 1hr run. Legs a little tired from yesterday but settled in pretty good.

Off the wagon

Hurting my sternum, probably fighting off a cold, etc knocked my off the wagon this week. Still feeling a little under the weather, but better than Friday night and Saturday. Got a massage on Saturday and my back is hurting less.

Tuesday - gift with the gang. Only did the core and legs, except the shoulder shrugs. Ran after. Nice that the days are long now. Was hurting a little after 30 minutes.

Wednesday- Ran at lunch. 35 minutes. Felt okay. Not great. Group trainer ride. Rode the road bike on the rollers. Decided it would be more comfortable. Road bike is like a Subaru wrx and TT bike is a Lincoln town car. Ride was okay. Back kept getting super tight.

Thursday - nothing. Missed the big bike ride. So tired this day. Big work day and as the day wound down I couldn't even think about anything but going to bed. Fell asleep on the couch but was disturbed by erik and Cory and didn't get much relaxation

Friday- did about 1000 of the swim and them just started to get super tight and sore. Couldn't get the uncomfortableness out of my head. Did the core exercises. Couldn't flutter kick. Hurts super bad. Had dinner with the lab and went for a beer with Peggy afterward. My 60 year old coworker. She has so much strength and wisdom. Love her, but man my back was killing me. Could hardly sit.

Saturday - barely got out of bed all day. Tried so hard to motivate, but was so tired. Spent the evening watching ironman Melbourne. Got motivated again, will see how I feel tomorrow. Might skip swimming and just do the ride. I really don't think I can handle masters yet. This is killing my brain because I hate being away from swimming for so long. The Grizzly is coming up and st George. God damnit. Wish I hadn't been mountain biking. Need to make some more triathlete friends. Those my bikers aren't very accommodating and they always make fun of triathletes.

Sunday - skipped swimming and slept in late. Still not feeling great but motivated anyway. I think it was only 27 degrees out so we didn't get out as far as I wanted to. Did intervals with Bender and Erik. I was grateful came. Went up Story Hill 3x (hill we rode on). Then did two other climbs. Missed one, but I was worked. Didn't feel great. You know the kind of tired when you feel worked but good worked, I felt worked but bad worked. On top of all this I think these longer rides are affecting my asthma. I kept feeling like I couldn't breath.

Spring Break

Awesome, awesome week out in the sun of St George. Got in lots and lots of riding. Got in enough sun to last until I go back there to race. Did some soul searching, hung out with friends, ate some good food, likely broke my sternum, and am happy to be back to a house with a functioning kitchen and bathroom. I think that is a successful vacation.

Sternum- Did a big ride on Saturday. Around 4 hours. It wasn't super technical, but didn't have any problems. Got in the car on Sunday and the care ride hurt. It also hurts to sleep. Hard to lay on my right shoulder and hard to move around. I don't think I could do a pushup and buttoning my pants is super painful. Will try swimming after work to see how it feels. What kind of pain do I not want to be feeling? My back on the right side is very sore too. Muscles are compensating for something. Should I go to the doctor? Physical therapist? A massage would do wonders.

St George course- Glad I did the ride 2x. In general, not the most spectacular ride. Lots of traffic, along the highway etc. But, the first time around  I got lost. I did backtrack on the correct route, but it was nothing like doing the ride correctly going forward. Lots of climbs. Not just little ones either, long ones that take the sails out.  The top of Snow Canyon is a killer. Definitely need to have a wider rear cassette on the bike than I had on this week. The run is going to be the same way, hard. Also, it is going to be hot!! I think for this race I am going to be nervous for the bike. I don't think killing it on the first few climbs is going to be beneficial. Kind of think that consistency throughout the day is going to be the key to keeping strong on the run. Glad I went down there and did some training. I wasn't thinking a lot about this race until now.
