My swimming volume seems low right now? True?
Thoughts and notes.
This year seems harder as far as saying no to people. This last week we had something going on every night. It was nothing I could say no too. A birthday party and an anniversary dinner were two of the things. Last year I don't remember as much going on or having to accomodate so much. I wonder if it is the summer. Everybody wants to have barbeques. Shakespear in the Park. I feel bad because my parents are on vacation for 2 weeks. They got a friend and a relative to come stay at their house to water and take care of the dogs because they know I am too busy. I am grateful that they recognize that, but it still makes me feel guilty. I wonder if doing a race in the fall or even CDA was good because there was less to commit to.
This week (4th of July) I am not committing to anything. Or as much.
I need to get swim intervals written down so I don't waste time on the math each time. For a 1:15 IM pace I need to do 1:45/100 in a 25 yard pool, 3:30/200, 4:15/250, and 12:45/750. Is that right or close enough. I can't calculate seconds into minutes.
( Either these are not right, or I can't keep the pace. 12:45 for a 750 was actually 13:30.
Wednesday
Run- Intervals on the track. I did 4 of these on the track and found a trail and marked the 800. I did 4 more going up and down the trail. Felt sooo much better than last week. Also, this was a pretty intense run workout. My legs were getting a little mushy by the last couple. Tried to slow down a little. Was doing the track ones on a little under 7 minutes. The trail ones were a little longer.
OWS. Jumped in the pond and did 3 laps without stopping. Took ~45 minutes.
Thursday
Swim in pool. Got in and got er done. Like being able to get in a little odd stroke. Doing to butterfly makes a for challenging workout.
Ride- Rode with Erik after work. Bought a new front wheel 90mm. Got a good deal on Ebay. Put that wheel on and rode. Want to get some practice with it. It makes the bike more stable when there is a direct headwind or no wind, but going downhill with any sort of cross wind is a little scary. Want to ride it up Bridger Canyon and down BattleRidge. I think for the BTT I will be able to make up some time on those scary descents, but only if I feel good on that wheel. The ride was uneventful. Good time on the TT bike.
Friday
Went up to Bohart and ran the course with a can of spray paint and some tape. Marked the course and ran to the next intersection and marked the course. The loop was 5 miles and pretty hilly. Lots of stop and go.
Have this weird pain in my back. Feel like I have some sort of pinched nerve. It is attached to my left leg. On Thursday and Friday nights it doesn't really hurt but is uncomfortable to stand upright.
Saturday
Big ride. The Chico trip didn't work out. Have my parents dogs and couldn't get a reservation. So Art suggested a loop. Up Bridger Canyon over Battle Ridge into Wilsall and on to Livingston. Back up over Bozeman Pass and over Jackson Creek and back down Bridger Canyon to Bozeman. Not counting the ride to meet everybody at the coffee shop I rode 103 miles. We stopped at Bohart to pick Erik up and took a break at Wilsall. We also stopped at the drive in at Livingston and got lunch. Tater tots, chicken sandwich, and Coke mmmmm. Lawrence killed it going from Wilsall to Livingston. I think our average ride speed was 22mph. The ride over Bozeman pass and Jackson Creek I felt really good. I was actually really happy with how good I felt. All in all just counting ride time and average speed we finished in 5:45 and our averge was just below 18mph. Not sure how this all adds up if I hadn't stopped, but felt like the numbers are pretty good. Especially for not having much of an agenda during the riding.
Sunday
Stuck with the plan as if we had gone to Chico. I was feeling pretty cooked though. Rode for two hours around the valley and picked Erik up and rode another 45 minutes. I think I only got in 50 miles not 65 but I was over it by then. Also, had a pretty close call with a big truck and trailer coming into town from Bridger Canyon. Spooked me quite a bit and had a big emotional breakdown on the park. Even chased the trailer down and was planning on dumping a bottle in his lap but he was out of the truck and I had to have a civil conversation with him. I think he was suprised I chased him down. Me too. That ride had a 5-10k time trial in it. I guess those are the tears I will look back on.
Monday- Did the big swim. I think my intervals are posted above. Need to recalculate them.
Looked at the swim workout a few times and totally missed the run. Crap. Sorry. Maybe I made up for it on Wednesday
Tuesday
Did the swim at lunch. Nothing much worth noting.
Rode after work. Not much worth noting either. I think I was pretty tired for some reason here. It was nice to have a day off work the next day though.
Wednesday 4th of July
Got up in the morning and went to the pond. Swam straight for 50 minutes. Started getting a little tired near the end.
Met up with a new running partner. I planned a run up Hyalite that included a lot of up and downhill. Not all up and then down. It looked like it was around 16 miles. Michelle is really strong and we didn't slack at all. We started at a pretty good pace and except for a few times where I couldn't handle the uphill we ran. It must of been longer than 16 miles because the total run time was pushing 4 hours if not a little over. We were completely worked at the end. She was calling it running dumb. Almost ran past the car even. Overall, I was happy with the whole thing. Nothing like a holiday to get out and get a good run in, especially up in the woods.
Went to a barbeque later for the 4th. Stayed up way too late, didn't eat enough, or drink enough water.
Thursday
Was sooo tired. I coudn't think at work. Every little task seemed like a mountain. Skipped ride. Walked dogs instead and went to bed early.
Friday
Getting ready for the Tour de Wyoming. Got over to the pool and got the swim and then the run in at lunch. Headed out of town after work and after taking the cat to the vet. Didn't get to campsite until after 11. Didn't sleep well. It was hot and race started at 7:30, so had to get up at 5:30.
Saturday
Was really excited to race. Woke up before alarm ready to go. Camped at race, so preparation wasn't stressful. Just rode down the hill with all of our gear.
Race
Jumped into the water and ran for quite a ways before diving in. That was a good tip from you because when I looked up nobody was in front of me. What!? Okay. I just kept swimming. I learned something very valuable. I cannot sight. I had to since nobody was catching me. I even stopped and turned to look at the turnaround. Nobody. What?! Came back in. Then at the end somebody was catching me. I thought. Crap, not now, and started sprinting for shore. Then I realized it was Lawrence. He and I came out of the water together. Top guy and girl. Fun.
Rode up the hill and the ride was one big hill. We got lost the night before finding the campground and realized it was a hill. Good thing to be prepared for. Rode down the hill very fast. Felt good. I was able to not blow myself up.
Run. Still leading the race. Suffered for a while until my legs felt fine again. That was the coolest running course I have ever done. Talk about an off road run. There wasn't even a trail. Just a bunch of flags. I was smiling at one point I was having so much fun and then realized I should probably be running faster. It was kind of hard to go all out when I was in the lead and the next girl not even in sight. Sorry.
Won the race. Got a little medal. It was fun, low key and lots of nice people. Not my fastest performance ever, but I felt strong and didn't have any issues. Other than sighting. Lawrence got 3rd.
Sunday
We found an 85 mile loop (maybe more, my computer wasn't working). 25 miles was hilly. 30 miles was next to a river, and the rest (33) was just a sufferfest. That was the hardest ride all year. Wow, the hills and the wind, then the heat and the antelope, then the fundamentalist mormon who told us about some pass to Cody and then the nice Cody breeze. It was a 25 mile uphill to Cody followed by a Cody headwind. Relentless day. Lawrence and I did the 30 mile interval on the hills and onto the river section. It was good. He dropped me. Then riding back the last 15 miles, I was just over it. I ended up dropping Lawrence and riding on my own. Very steady. Despite the heat and the wind I was actually feeling very strong at the end.
Ran post ride while those guys were still coming in. Got some fireworks tossed out a car window at me and then they came back for me. Uggh. Don't like Cody much. But it always feels good to survive a sufferfest.
Good Wyoming adventure weekend. Glad I went.
Monday
Swam at the pool at lunch. It was a coworkers birthday so we floated the river all afternoon. Nice! Despite yesterdays ride I feel really good today. Maybe tomorrow the hunger and tiredness will kick in?
